For me, coffee is life.
I know I’m going to be sucking it down anyways, so I might as well make it healthy.
I like to use flavored coffee, sweeten it with stevia, add a good amount of cinnamon…and a spoonful of coconut oil.
Stevia is the only sweetener I ever use and it is considered safe by most, but I still think in a perfect world I will one day not use any. But for now, its low calorie, doesn’t effect your blood sugar, and isn’t poison. I always make sure to get non GMO.
Cinnamon is so good for you! It stabilizes blood sugar, it’s good for nerves, memory, attention span, ADHD, road rage, cramps, morning sickness, seriously, everything. I even read that it helps the winter blues. In addition it is also anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral, anti-parasitic, it’s a great anti-oxidant, I mean- why would you not be using cinnamon!?
In my world, it’s just so easy to sprinkle this into my coffee every day so I know I’m getting all of these awesome benefits. After writing this article, I think I have actually convinced myself that I need to get some cinnamon essential oil too!
Ok. The Coconut Oil.
I know it sounds a little bit weird and maybe not at all healthy. But coconut oil is one of the healthiest fats in the world. Because of the kind of fat it is (medium chain), your body absorbs it super fast, so it is used as fuel, not stored as fat. It actually has been shown that taken over a period of time, your mid section fat actually decreases! As if that wasn’t enough of a reason, its an extra dose of anti-oxidants. So it keeps you healthy while it makes you skinny! I’ve also heard it described as a vegan way to jump on the bulletproof coffee trend. Same concept. You can put a spoonful of it in a blender with your coffee for a frothy drink, or be lazy like me and just let spoonful melt into your mug.
Go add some nutrition to your coffee!
