3 Supplements for Gorgeous Skin

I only take supplements for 3 reasons

1. For my Anxiety

2. Vitamins and Minerals I feel might be lacking because of my diet

3. FOR MY SKIN

Years ago a friend lent me a book by Dr. Perricone about skin care and supplementation. That was the first time I ever really thought about taking things for the health of my skin. I kind of became a little bit obsessed with vitamins at that time in my life and was taking them constantly. Not that anything bad could happen from that (and you know this already if you watched that documentary FoodMatters I told you about.) Dr Perricone’s big thing was preventing inflammation, which is the source of all aging in the body. Not just in your skin but also in your organs.

There were 3 main things that I took away from this book that I knew I wanted to start taking.

Hyaluronic Acid

DMAE

Alpha Lipoic Acid

Hyaluronic Acid~ plumps

The best thing about hyaluronic acid is that it holds a ton of water. In fact, it retains more water than any other biological substance. Improving the hydration of skin is huge for anti aging. It also stimulates the production of collagen, helps skin elasticity, and works as an antioxidant. As a bonus, it is doing its work all over your body and has been shown to help joint pain by adding that magical hydration to cushion joint and nerve tissues. Find it Here

DMAE~ lifts and firms

Short for dimethylaminoethanol, DMAE is known for strengthening cells and their membranes. It only makes sense that healthy skin starts with healthy cells. Not only good for skin structure, it is also said that DMAE promotes greater tone in muscles. It also actually prevents the body from producing a chemical that causes inflammation, which we now know causes aging. As if all this isn’t enough of a reason to incorporate this into your daily routine, there are even claims of this increasing life span AND it helps decrease the natural decline of memory. Sounds like an overall way to never grow old. Find it Here

Alpha Lipoic Acid- smooths

The most potent of the antioxidants, ALA even helps regenerate other antioxidants. It will reduce the size of pores, reduce scarring, and best of all- it enhances the skin’s natural exfoliation capacity=glowing skin. Add this to the fact that studies show it reduces wrinkles by as much as 50%, and how could you not want to take this? Oh, and it lowers blood sugar. NBD. Find it Here

I made the declaration maybe 6 or 7 years ago that I was going to start aging backwards, and I honestly do feel like my skin is in better shape now than it was then. I do a lot for my skin. Lifestyle choices like working out, drinking water and getting enough sleep are vital, but I do have a lot of secrets too. Soon I’ll be sharing a post of the ‘weird’ things I do to my skin. I also have a list of vitamins I take for skin health, if you are interested in this, leave a comment below!

Until next time, take really good care, and don’t forget to wash your face!!!❤

I’ve never tried these, but I might have to. My mom and husband are big on supplements of all sorts

    Hi Rachele,

I’m always looking to amp up my self-care regiment. Thank you for this list as I’m taking a course right now on clothing style and this goes right along with showing my body, especially my skin some much needed love!
